Little Joys Block Three

Week Four of Little Joys and the last of the blocks are done.  Three 'presents' added to the other 6 blocks and ready to be joined and quilted.  The final week will be the 'finishing', a quick and easy weekly QAL :)

I also worked on this weeks blocks for Hampsire Holiday.  I got the strips sewn and cut for the 6 'Mincemeat Cakes' and 34 Sugar Plums.  Just have to finish them now  Mincemeat Cakes are 9 unit blocks and Sugar Plums are more checkerboard blocks, just a little bigger this week.

ALYoF July Finish

My July Goal, #13 in the Goal Setting Party, was to piece the top of Which Way.  I posted about it HERE, HERE and HERE.  I used a Moda More Hearty Good Wishes Jelly Roll and Makeower Spectrum Block in Mid Blue, Cornflower, Sand, Biscuit, Cappachino, Slate, Ocean, Marine Blue and Charcoal for the center arrow and More Hearty Good Wishes yardage for the borders.  Yes, I broke down and purchased some more in spite of the price ;)  Size wise, it's still a bit smallish (60 x 54) for the recipient I had in mind, my 6'2 grandson, but I don't want to go mad on the borders.  It will be travelling back to Canada with me in September, so it won't be quilted yet, which gives me time to decide on final borders or not :)
The finish of the quilt top makes me 7 for 7 in the A LOVELY YEAR OF FINISHES Challenge, hosted by Shana of Fiber of All Sorts and Melissa of Sew Bittersweet Designs.

Let's Bee Social #82

This week I've been working on ~~~surprise surprise~~~ BOMs and QALs ;)   Hampshire Holiday and Spring Row QAL I've posted about HERE  and the newest addition to my growing list, MMQGMBOM,  I posted about HERE.    Little Joys Week 3 block is a Wreath called Home Coming, easy piecing so they came together quickly.

Yesterday I worked on my ALYOF July goal.  I put some practice time in EQ7, managed to make a similar pattern and got some of the fabrics I'm using loaded then played with border options.  When I sat down to actually do the borders I decided arrows all the way around was too much so went with corner blocks (flying geese) instead.  The size is 60 x 54, I would have preferred a bit bigger, but I don't want to over do on the borders.  I'll lay it aside for now...  Just some peek shots, I'll save the full shots for the end of the month.

The Maritime Modern Quilt Guild has jumped on the BOM band wagon so of course I have to play along :)  This is a 'just finished' BOM at Sew Mama Sew , we'll just be following it a year later :)  No rules really, if you want to 'sew ahead' that's ok.  I'll be making my blocks as the links are posted. The first two block links were posted so we can get caught up with the rest being posted, one a month, on the 15th.  I'm doing mine in solids, with the exception of one print which I will use randomly.  The blocks are all 12 1/2" x 12 1/2".  July's block was fun and quick, just strip piecing really.  August's block was ~~~gulp~~~ improvisational piecing.  I'm out of my comfort zone doing improvisational anything but I got it done, sort of.  It's not wonky enough and the colors are to clumped together, but it's done :)

BOMs Away 20/07

It's BOMs Away Monday again at What A Hoot Quilts.  This week I've been working on the "Clothesline Village"  Row 1 of  the Spring Row QAL at DOD Mystery Blog.  I got the three houses pieced last week and this morning I sewed them together  and finished the little quilts, now I just have to decide if I want to hang them between trees or over a fence.

Yesterday the pattern for Week#2 of the Hampshire Holiday QAL was posted.  Turned out to be the same blocks as Week #1 so I sewed them up today as well.  Same blocks, same amount, different color ways.  But, as can often be the case, mine are NOT the same.  LOL   Last week I messed up on a few blocks, which I ripped and re sewed.  This week?  There won't be any resewing, all 36 blocks are going to remain with the diamonds pointing in the other (not wrong) direction :)  At least until I see how they are incorporated into the quilt top.

TGIFF 17/07/15

Quilt Matters  is hosting TGIFF this week, so if you have a finish to share pop on over :)  I have a couple of little finishes this week,  a toddler bib I posted about HERE and this morning went off to it's home in Bristol.  Once I got the boat sorted the rest went smoothly.  A fun project and I love the finish.  It'll be a bit big for the little guy yet, but hopefully he'll get some wear out of it in a couple of months.

The second finish is a small Wall Hanging I've been wanting to do for a few months.  In January  I almost hit add to basket for the fabric kit for Sewing Studio at  .... ummmmm 'Sew Sisters' maybe? but the pattern wasn't included and the link to the pattern wasn't working.  A couple of weeks ago, while nosing around in the patterns at Sew Fresh Quilts, there it was :)  I was a happy quilter :)  I used what I had on hand,  quilted with straight lines and outlined each patch with a decorative stitch.  I love it!

Let's Bee Social #81

Wednesday again, already?  Where does the time go???  This week I worked on some Quilt Alongs, Little Joys, which I posted about HERE and Hampshire Holiday, which started on the 12th.  Our first week's 'recipe' was for Lobster & Eggs.  The blocks are 3 1/2" checkerboards, 24 of one color way and  12 of the other.  I some how turned some units during construction and had to redo a few, but they were easy and quick.

And because I just don't have enough QALs/BOMs on the go I had to sign up for another one :)  DOD Mystery Blog is hosting two, but I only signed up for one :)  Spring Row QAL started on the 1st and runs Monthly.  We have a month to get at least one block in the row complete and posted.  The first row is Village Houses and I've gotten the blocks pieced, I just need to do some applique work and do the quilts.  I should be able to get one block complete and posted by the end of the month.

I also worked on another Bib following a pattern at Positively Splendid.  It's a larger toddler size design which I made out of cottons instead of the towel.  I like the towel idea though...  I wanted to use my left over anchor fabric so made a sailboat out of matching colors.  It was fiddly getting the boat the right size, but I got there in the end.

BOMs Away 13/07

This week I've finished 'Hot Dog Stand', block #7 in Pat Sloan's Vacation Time .  This BOM/QAL started in January and I have to say I've not been thrilled with my fabric choices from the very beginning.  I should have gone with brighter colors.  But, there are only two months left (one more block I think) so I'm determined to finish it.

Hot Dog Stand

Here are the other blocks, in random order :)

Beach Bag

Board Walk

Penny Arcade

Summer Nights

Surf's Up

Toes In The Sand
