I'm usually so excited about a finish that I do the 'Happy Dance' all over my blog as soon as it's done, which doesn't seem to ever fall on a Friday.  This week I hung on to my 'Finish' until today so I could link up with TGIFF at ANJA QUILTS.

I've blogged about B & T's play mats HEREHERE HERE and HERE,

This week I finished two play mats, about 40" x 40", using a Jelly Roll and some Fat Quarters from Kate Spain's 'Horizon' for Moda Fabrics and Gail Kessler's 'Dimples' in purple and green (or close enough) for Andover Fabrics.  The Moda fabrics I purchased in Canada and brought with me, the Andover fabrics I purchased in England.  I decided to do  a pieced back on both which turned out just as lovely as the fronts :)

Tomorrow they will travel to Cambridge to live with Brooke (3) and Tayla (1) :)

I hope your TGIFF was as fun to do as mine was!  Be sure to drop by ANJA QUILTS and see what others have finished this week.

Yesterday, to keep my fingers off the keyboard, I used the leftover Horizon strips to make this little pouch... whatever will I use it for???... oh, I know... LOL

Thanks for dropping by Both Sides of The Pond :)  Do you know what a roll of toilet paper is called on this side (England) of the pond?

Bee Social #74

This week I've been doing a bit of everything it seems.  I pieced the four 'Hillside Houses' blocks to get myself caught up with the Quilt Along at  Pretty Little Quilts  and joined the two finished rows together.  I'm really liking how the Wall Hanging is coming together, it's going to add some brilliant color to my sewing corner :)

Blocks 1 - 6

I did some quilting on Brook and Tayla's play mats.  I'm saving the 'finished' pics for Friday :)

I bought a small Tapestry while in Venice last week with the thought of using it in a small over the back of the sofa quilt.  Today I pieced together a 'trial' block using the left over strips from B & T's play mats.  I then pulled some dark quarters out of my 'stash', added some lighter ones and I think I'm ready to start cutting.  I'm going to use black for the background borders.

A Lovely Year of Finishes - May Finish

5 for 5 in  A Lovely Year of Finishes Challenge, woo hoo :)  I blogged about my 'restart' of  Moccasin  Here . My May Goal Setting post was #10 . The link to Ann Marie Chany's BOM is on my side bar.  Knowing I was going on a Cruise (May 14 - 21) I worked to get all 5 months of blocks done before sailing, which I did with a couple of hours to spare for packing :).  I'm liking the solids!   I'm still drawn to prints when I visit the fabric shops... but more solids are finding their way into my basket :)

January - Two 9x9" Ladies Blocks with many many many small pieces. Versions of Lady of the White House and Lady of the Lake

February - One 9x9" Windflower Block with small curved pieces.   I'm still struggling with my seams matching up.

March - Three 9x9" Blocks. 2 Shoofly and 1 Crow's Foot  Easy piecing so they went together quickly.

April - Two 9x9" Bosonic String Blocks.  Kind of like paper piecing, only easier ;)

May - One 9x9" Dresden Plate.

I'm linking up with the May Finish Party at  Fiber of All Sorts.  At least I hope I am, one can never really be sure the links are working :)

QAL, BOMs and a Finish

Sewing blocks over the past few days (with a little bag making tossed in) and I think I'm caught up for May. Just in time,  as I fly off to Dubrovnik, Croatia at 6am tomorrow morning... which mean's a 3am wake up call.

Last week Lorna's 'Let's Bee Social' post led me to 'Hillside Houses' at Pretty Little Quilts . I'm loving the bright colors! I'm doing the wall hanging size, to brighten up the cream and white of the 'fun' room on this side of the pond.  I'm using what I have on hand, so a mix of prints and colors.  3, 1, 2... I messed up the order  LOL

Three little house :)

I cut out two BOM blocks, 'Beach bag' for Vacation Time and 'Kitchen' for Snapshots,  then got side tracked on a Noodlehead Runaround Bag .

Beach Bag

Added Bonus... it's reversible :)

I got back to the BOMs and now I have the afternoon to finish packing... or sit in the sun and listen to music :)  I hope you all enjoying your Wednesday, thank you for dropping by :)

Another WiP Wednesday :)

Between  watching Snooker and a Bank Holiday Monday, I managed to squeeze in some WiPs this week and got a good start on the Moccasin blocks for my A Lovely Year of Finishes Goal.  A trip to Cambridge is planned for the last weekend in May so I want to get the Playmats for Tayla and Brooke finished.  With the Croatian Cruise (May 14 - 21) that leaves me a little shy on time to sew.  I should still meet my goals, just :)   Of course, following along in the Meet Marititme Modern Blog Hop and checking out what others are doing to Bee Social, and finding another QAL ;),  means I have to actually get off the computer in order to stay on track with my sewing.  :)

I'm linking up with Let's Bee Social #71 at Sew Fresh Quilts.  Enjoy what your Wednesday brings, stay safe and be happy :)

May Goal

My May Goal for A Lovely Year of Finishes is to catch up with the Moccasin Block of The Month.  I was doing really well with my BOMs, until I came over to England at the end of March, and had to leave all but two of them at home ~~~wah wah wah~~~

Working with solids has only recently piqued my interest, I've always seen them as kind of boring and soooooo unforgiving of my 'EEKs'.  I figured, since I left my Moccasin fabrics behind I may as well turn it into my first Solids project so went on the hunt for colors.  To make it easier to follow the patterns I went with the colors suggested.  Wasn't a difficult hunt, I found them on an online shop, Online Sewing,  they are all from the same Fabric line 'Spectrum Block'. Buying them was not as straight forward as normal as my credit card company flagged the activity as 'suspicious', phoned me at home, where I wasn't, so my sister phoned me with a number (no name) to call.  ME, use the phone???  Good grief, I have a difficult time using my home phone, trying to figure out how to dial a European toll free number almost had me in panic mode ;)  With a little help I managed to get through and after answering the list of questions, oked my purchase, which was then delivered within three days.  Not too shabby :)  My one deviation from 'solids' is the white, it's actually white on white (tiny flowers) and I bought it at the LQS, Midsomer Quilting.  Much more relaxed shopping :)

Even with a week away (Croatian Classics Cruise), and knowing that January, March and April have multiple blocks, February's is a small block with curves and May's is a Dresden,   I'm pretty confident I can get caught up.  January, February and March's blocks have all had a trial run, after all :)

I'm linking up with A Lovely Year of Finishes'  May's Goal Party at Sew Bitter Sweet Designs.  Do you have a goal for May?  Want to give yourself an extra push to get 'er done?  Why not join in, it's easy and fun and you can win a prize :)
