Mail Orders

Don't you just love getting packages in the mail :)  I was pleasantly surprised when the mailman knocked on my door this morning, not expecting delivery on New Year's Eve.  An order I placed with Mad About Patchwork on December 28 was dispatched on December 29 and arrived on December 31.  Pretty darn good postal services in my not so humble opinion.

I haven't 'handled' the fabric yet... but snapped a quick picture of the contents  Rainbow Bundle, Shot Cotton Sampler Bundle, Kona Putty, Kona Ash and Kona White, most of which will be used for Pile O Fabric's Galaxy Skill Builder BOM 2015

Last Day of 2014

2014 has been a great quilting adventure for me, both here in Nova Scotia and across the pond in England.  I've spent many hours watching videos and learning, took part in several Quilt Alongs and BOMs and improved my skills and confidence with each stitch I've sewn.  What a blast!  I've bragged about and shared my creations here, on Facebook and in my forum and enjoyed the positives shared by friends and family.  I finished 20  projects between March and December, not too shabby for my first year (almost) of Quilting.  Most have been blogged about, some several times, but I'm still going to list them here...

Polar Bears is still homeless and Green Monkey will make it's way across the pond in March.  The rest have all gone to their permanent homes, 12 in Nova Scotia and 6 in England.

I have three UFOs, Black & White Layered Squares (I forgot to bring it home with me when I crossed the pond in September), Snowed Inn, which is sandwiched and waiting to be quilted and Crazy For Red, which is my WIP for this last Wednesday of 2014 :)

Crazy For Red has been fun and relaxing.  It's a Craftsy Class, Magical Blocks: Out of The Box with Kimberly Einmo.  I decided to quilt it in sections, three main body sections and four border sections, which has made the quilting go quickly with no errrrrrrggggg moments.  I've got the main top done and two of the borders quilted and ready to attach.  I had hoped it would be my last finish of 2014, but I'm not going to rush the finishing so it'll be my first finish of 2015 :)  The back will be pieced using the left over Layer Cake and Jelly Roll pieces used in the front.

Monday Finishes :)

Is there a better way to spend a Monday than sewing???  I think not :)  I did manage some time with the dogs and cooked supper (beef stew in the slow cooker and fresh baked bread rolls) but the bulk of the day was spent in the fun room.

My first finish is Beau Nova.  It was the Craftsy November Mystery quilt which ended up being a bed runner.  Not as long as the first one I made, but wider.  Still quilting without a walking foot, so there are a few wrinkles sewn in but that's the way my quilting goes :)

Ready to add the binding.

My second finish today is the dog blank.  I found a piece of blanket fleece in the remnants bin at Fabricville which worked perfectly for a backing.  For the dogs, it will be the side they'll use most I'm sure.

Painter's Tape is wonderful :)

Back (part of it anyway)
That's all of my Christmas gifts done, now I can really play :)  I picked up the backing for Wishes/Snowed Inn so it's in the to do pile, along with Crazy For Red/Magical Blocks and Snow, which I am 4 months behind on.  I finally got the fabric for that on the weekend.  And the Snowman wall hanging needs eyes.  Looks kind of lonely on my design wall, I'll have to  sort that out...

There are other projects, my sister's beach bag is still waiting for me to find the right pattern out of the gazillion I have,  the final instructions for Pile o Fabric's BOM For The Love of Sewing are up so I should get that done, plus the two 'extras' (craft apron and sewing machine cover) and I just got a Noodlehead pattern for a sectioned basket I'd like to try and and and...  This quilting lark has definitely taken over :)

I hope your Monday was a good one :)

WIPs 10/12/14

My fun room is strewn with projects on the go.  Yesterday the backing for Beau Nova arrived so I pulled it out of the 'block' box and laid it out over the ironing board to rethink... it was really too long and not wide enough for my liking, sooooooo I took two blocks off and separated them into half blocks  then sewed a half on each end.  The other two halves I sewed together and will make a cushion cover from it.  That made the length perfect.  Now, what to do about the width?  Ummmm... more ripper work and the remaining blocks became  two strips of quarter stars, not without some readjustment (which included taking seams apart and sewing them again, and again.  But that only happened once or twice... maybe three times.  Got them done and pinned then sewn in place and back to the ironing board for a nice press.  Huh???  How the heck did I manage to get the strips sewn on wrong???  My star points are going in the wrong direction.  I've got some more ripper work to do, but it will be tomorrow, my eyes are too tired tonight :)

I also received my Crazy For Red Layer Cake and Jelly Roll yesterday.  I'll pair them up with a lovely cream leaf print to make a Star quilt I've been wanting to do.   I had hoped to get a start on it, but Beau Nova took over today so Crazy For Red is in waiting mode.  Not for long though because I absolutely LOVE the fabrics!

Snowed Inn made it to the newly arrived (yesterday) rotating cutting board, but it too is in wait mode.

I did give it a trial run though, I used it to trim up the six blocks for my Ruby Max Lucy quilt.  The blocks (and the uncut letters) are now on my design wall.  I have to make a trip to the fabric shop for some brown for the name strip and binding and for something furry/fluffy/soft for the backing.

06/12/14 Saturday Snapshot

My fun room this morning as I prepare to settle in for some Saturday sewing, with a little side trip to cyber world to blog, post on Facebook, and catch up on my Forums.

The plan for today is to finish the FMQ on my last block of For The Love of Sewing.  This is the first time I've tried FMQ on my Brother machine and I must say, it went much better than my attempts on my Janome.  I'm still shaky as all get out and my circles have points, but overall the 'eeks' don't really matter much.  My  'play'station is still cobbled together, but it works and I think I have it in a position I'm comfortable with, so I'll leave it for now.  I'll know better once I start working on project #2 for the weekend, Trifle Dish, which has been hanging around waiting to get quilted.  I hope my walking foot behaves because I definitely will need it.  Project #3, is to get started (only three months late) on SNOW, which is a Row of the Month QAL.

I finished the last three blocks of WISHES yesterday, they are pinned to the wall and waiting for the arrival of my 17 inch rotating cutting board so I can trim them and piece together the top.  I loved doing WISHES, the blocks are fabulous and went together so nicely.

Time to get off the computer and start sewing... it's so convenient that my laptop and sewing machine  are only a roll away :)
Enjoy your Saturday, be safe and share some smiles :)

WIPs 04/12

Thursday WIPs this week, I couldn't get my act in gear to get them posted yesterday.  I've been waiting on the arrival of my backing material, so no progress on Beau Nova and Trifle Dish is still waiting to be quilted.  It's been a busy week with Christmas decorating so only one new project on the go, Wishes, which is a Quilt Along I found late in the game at Fat Quarter Shop.  I was looking for a pattern to use a Fat Quarter bundle (Snowed In) I got from Connecting Threads and Wishes fit the bill.  I've gotten half way thru the blocks and I absolutely love them!  The cutting instructions are spot on so very little trimming and the block sizes are wonderful.  I'm really enjoying the piecing for these blocks :)
